NVI was founded in 1992 by Dr. Nancy Vandenberg, a scientist well known in the international geodesy community, to pursue a contract to provide support to the Goddard Spaceflight Center (GSFC) Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) group. NVI won this contract and all follow-on contracts. NVI has consistenly been awarded excellent ratings on these contracts.
In 2000 NVI won a contract to provide support services to the Naval Observatory VLBI Correlator in Washington, DC. The Navy awarded the follow-on contract to NVI in 2005 on a sole-source basis.
In 2005 NVI was awarded a contract to provide suport for the Astrometry group at the Naval Observatories in Washington, DC and Flagstaff, AZ.
In 2002, Dr. Vandenberg sold NVI to three long-term NVI employees: Dr. John Gipson, Mr. Ed Himwich, and Ms. Cynthia Thomas. Dr. Gipson is currently President and Chair of the Board of NVI, Inc.
